The Spew Topics for Tuesday August 28th, 2018

1.      The  S&P 500 and Nasdaq both hit intraday records on Monday after the  U.S. and Mexico reached a tentative trade deal. The Dow Jones Industrial  Average gained 270 points after closing Friday at its highest level  since early February and the S&P 500 was up 0.82%. The Nasdaq gained  0.96% and traded above the 8,000 milestone while hitting an intraday  high. Do you ever think that President Trump and Mexican President  Enrique Pena Nieto would work out a deal?

2.      The  State Department is warning U.S. travelers to use “increased caution”  if visiting Mexico. The government raised the travel advisory to level  two, citing violent crime such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and  robbery is widespread. The government says they have limited ability to  give emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Mexico as  government employees cannot travel to those areas.  Would you travel to  Mexico?

3.      The  black cat suit that Serena Williams wore in this year’s French Open  will be banned in future tournaments.  The French Tennis Federation  President said they would implement a new dress for athletes because  some have gone too far.  Williams said the body suit helped prevent  blood clots.  Did you see Serena’s cat suit?  What do you think?  Did it  go too far?

4.        Browns head coach Hue Jackson said wide receiver Josh Gordon won’t play  against the Lions in the Browns final pre-season game this week and he  did not practice with the team but instead rode a stationary bike.  What  are your thoughts on how the Browns are handling Gordon?

5.       The New York Giants agreed to contract terms with Odell Beckham.  He’s  agreed to a five year $95 million contract with $65 million of that  money being guaranteed.  The contract would make him the highest paid  wide receiver in the NFL, more than Antonio Brown at an average salary  of $19 million per year.  Is he worth the money?

6.        An ex CIA agent Bill Oxley claims he assisinated Bob Marley.  The  79-year-old in a death bed confession said he murdered Marley and  assassinated 17 others for the CIA between 1974 and 1985.  Marley was  36-years old when he died in 1981 and his official cause of death is  listed skin cancer which spread from under a nail of his toe.  Do you  believe Oxley?

7.      A  rare computer will be hitting the auction block next month,  it's an  original Apple-1, one of the computers built by Steve Wozniak and Steve  Jobs back in 1976 and 1977. It's been restored and is unmodified, a  rarity even among the 60 or so of these computers still believed to be  out there. It originally sold for $666 and it may fetch upwards of  $300,000.  Is there anything you old you wished you would have saved?

8.      To  commemorate “National Women’s Equality Day” a “Go Topless Rally” was  held in Ashville, North Carolina.   GoTopless.org says on its website:  “If men are allowed to go topless in public women should have the same  constitutional right”.   What do you think?  Should women be legally  allowed to go topless?

 9.      Nature  Valley granola bars will no longer claim to use 100% natural oats in  order to settle a lawsuit that claimed the bars contained small amounts  of a pesticide. Three consumer groups said tests proved the granola bars  contained zero-point-45 parts per million of the pesticide Roundup.  Even though that is well below the EPA's maximum allowed of 30 parts per  million, the groups argued that the "Made with 100% Natural Whole Grain  Oats" label was misleading. How much do you trust the labeling of food  products?

10.    A  school district in South Carolina is getting rid of “snow days” and is  replacing them with eLearning Days.  When classrooms are closed because  of the weather, teachers will send parents digital assignments their  children will have to complete at home.  If for any reason students have  a problem accessing the internet, they will still be required to  complete the assignment within five days on their own time.   What you  like to see eLearning days be implemented in Northeast Ohio schools?
