On Saturday 6/2/18 at approx. 1:30AM, an officer stopped to help a disabled vehicle on I90 at Crocker. The unfortunate motorists had a wheel completely fall off the vehicle. When the officer arrived, the passenger told him that the operator had left the scene to get help. It turns out that the passenger, a 33yo from Oberlin, had an entered warrant from another agency. The male was arrested for his warrant and transferred to the other department. A sticker was placed on the vehicle indicating that it would be towed by the police if not removed in a timely manner.
On 6/2/18 at approx. 5:57PM, a vehicle was stopped for an expired plate violation. The temporary tag on the car had actually been altered to reflect a later expiration date. The driver, a 46yo from Cleveland, had a suspended license and said that she was borrowing the vehicle from a friend. She and the 4 other occupants of the car were questioned as the vehicle also smelled of marijuana. During a search, a loaded .22 CAL pistol was located (see photo). A 19yo passenger from Cleveland, who initially claimed to be 16yo, was charged with a felony Carrying concealed weapon violation for the gun. He also had an outstanding felony warrant for burglary from another jurisdiction. The driver was charged with fictitious plates as well as driving under suspension. Another passenger was charged with possession of marijuana as well as an outstanding assault warrant from Cleveland PD. The vehicle was towed.
On 6/3/18 at about 1:10PM a caller reported seeing a male exit a vehicle in the parking lot of a medical building at the corner of Detroit and Clague Rds. The suspect broke the window out of a parked car, jumped back into a Kia Soul occupied by others, and headed N/B on Clague. The Kia was entered as stolen out of Cleveland. Bay Village officers found the car and began to pursue it. They were assisted by Avon and Avon Lake PD officers as the stolen Kia crashed in the area of Lake and Jaycox Rds. 4 males ended up running from the vehicle but were soon apprehended by the officers on scene. 2 juveniles as well as 2 young adult males, both from Cleveland, were charged. Westlake has felony theft as well as criminal damaging charges for the group.
On 6/4/18 at approx. 4:14PM, a female juvenile shoplifter was detained by Drug Mart. The girl had stolen just under $30 of nail polish. The juvenile was turned over to her parents and theft charges will be filed through juvenile court.
On 6/5/18 at about 8pm, a female responded to WPD to report that she was being harassed and threatened by a male. She had met the male online on the Plenty of Fish dating application. They corresponded for awhile but never met in person. When she decided that the relationship was over, the male did not take it well and began sending threatening texts, application messages and other postings. Although she told him to stop, he persisted. Officers attempted to speak with him but he would not cooperate with the investigation. Warrants have been obtained for telecommunication harassment.
On 6/6/18 a male called WPD to report that a former employee had stolen his work truck. In fact, the employee had been fired minutes before, hopped into the work van, and left the scene. Officers searched the area but could not locate the van nor the upset former employee. When officers responded to the business though, the employer decided that he would give the fired male some time to return the truck. He did not wish to prosecute so the case was closed.
On 6/6/18 at approx. 9:38Am, an officer observed suspicious activity at the Red Roof Inn. Upon approaching a vehicle in the lot, a male and female were inside. The car reeked of marijuana and the male, a 31yo from Cleveland, quickly gave up a baggie of the contraband. A search of the car revealed numerous pills, marijuana edibles, and an open container of alcohol. In addition, there were 16 counterfeit CD’s located including recordings from artists such as MONEYBAGG YO, HEARTLESS, and ELLA MAI. The male half was cited with possession of marijuana and open container. He was sent on his way. The female passenger, a 32yo from Maple Hts, was arrested for misdemeanor trademark infringement. She was later released after providing proof that she was properly in possession of the found pills.
On 6/7/18 at 11:08Am officers responded to Nordstrom Rack at Crocker Park for a report of a stolen wallet. The victim reported that she had been walking around the store with her purse slung over the handle of a stroller. While shopping and trying on clothes, she did not notice anyone acting suspiciously. Later, soon after leaving the store, she noticed that the wallet was missing from inside the purse. The credit cards had been cancelled quickly so no fraudulent activity was noted. The investigating officers are reviewing surveillance footage to attempt to identify a suspect(s).
