PARMA – The 14th annual Firefighters Memorial Ride is set to take place on Sunday, May 27. Over 1,000 motorcycle riders will take the approximately 30-mile trip from the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial to the Rock-n-Roll City Harley-Davidson in Cleveland, passing different fire houses along the way to honor fallen firefighters and other first responders.
A memorial ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial in front of the Great Lakes Science Center, east of FirstEnergy Stadium. The Memorial Ride will officially begin at 11:00 a.m. and will finish approximately at 12:30 p.m. at the Rock-n-Roll City Harley-Davidson at 4985 W 150th St, Cleveland where food and entertainment will be on tap until 3:00 p.m.
The riders are expected to enter Parma on Pearl Road at approximately 11:25 a.m. They will pass Parma Fire Station 1 and Parma Heights Fire Department as they continue south on York Rd then west on Royalton Road. The procession of motorcycles could cause traffic delays along this route, but any delays are expected to be minor.
“Parma is honored that the Memorial Ride will pass through our city,” Mayor Tim DeGeeter said. “I encourage our residents to come out and line the route when the riders pass through. Let’s wave our flags to honor the fallen firefighters and other first responders and to show our appreciation for all they do.”
Safety Director Thomas Weinreich said, “The Parma Safety Forces join with the participants of this Memorial Ride in honoring the memory of Ohio’s fallen firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians.”
Residents who wish to show their support should line up along the route at Pearl Rd or York Rd in time for the riders’ expected arrival.
