CLEVELAND - The day dedicated to celebrating Polish and Eastern European heritage is underway. Dyngus Day is always the Monday after Easter. The celebration has been tracked to the 14th century, but Justin Gorski organized Cleveland's celebration 7 years ago. He says it was hard at first to get people out on a Monday, but last year, the celebration attracted 30,000 people.
Traditionally, boys throw water over girls and spank them with pussy willow branches on Easter Monday, and girls do the same to boys. The celebration this year included a Polish wedding, live music, ethnic Polish food and more. Details at www.ClevelandDyngus.com
