As Lebron James has done so many times before, he put down another huge dunk in front of the home crowd at Quicken Loans Arena. Only this one was different, as moved James ahead of Michael Jordan in the record books one more time.
With the first quarter dunk, James scored double digits in points for the 867th straight game, passing the six-time World Champion.
Along with history, the Cavs also grabbed the win, taking out the New Orleans Pelicans, 107-102. After trailing by ten a halftime, the Wine and Gold stormed back to grind out a very important win, with only six more games to go in the NBA regular season. A loss would have them below the Pacers to fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.
With the win in hand, Lebron had a chance to talk about the record after the game. Passing Jordan, while playing just a few miles from where he grew up wasn't lost on four time NBA MVP.
"You know, brought up 30 minutes south of here and the statistics is always stacked up against you, and for me to be in this position today, being able to accomplish something that a lot of people thought would not happen again or be able to break a record like that," James said to reporters after the game.
Jordan Clarkson chipped in with 23 points off the bench, and Rodney Hood threw in another 16. Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance, Jr combined for 19 rebounds and kept Pelicans' Center, Anthony Davis in check most of the night, holding him to 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Next up, the Cavs take on the Dallas Mavericks, Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena. The action will tip off at 6PM on 100.7 WMMS.
