Perry High candy not tampered with

(Perry Township) - Investigators say the candy that sickened 21 students at Perry High School in Stark County on Wednesday was not tampered with.

However, they have not determined how the candy became tainted.

Police Chief Michael Pomesky says they are trying to find the student who brought the candy to school. It was in a plastic bag, was unsealed, and chewable.

Perry Local Schools Superintendent Scott Beatty released the following statement....

"We would like to provide everyone in the community with an update on the candy incident that took place on March 7 at the high school. At this time, preliminary indications do not suggest that the candy was tampered with.  When the official results are available, we will provide an update. Again, we do not believe there is any additional cause for concern. I would like to thank area safety services for their quick response and support. I would also like to thank our staff members for always putting our students first.Again, the well-being of our students is our top priority and we take all situations that may impact their safety and health very seriously".
