(CLEVELAND) -- The Indians have signed All-Star second baseman Jason Kipnis to a six-year extension worth $52.5 million, a deal that includes a seventh-year club option.

The Tribe confirmed the initial reports on Friday morning. The Indians open the home slate of the 2014 schedule on Friday at 3:05 pm ET against the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field.

Kipnis, 27, has hit .270 for his career and owns a career OBP of .348. Kipnis, a converted outfielder, was an All-Star during the 2013 season.

A 10:30 am ET press conference is scheduled with Kipnis and Indians general manager Chris Antonetti.

Earlier this off-season, the club gave Michael Brantley and Yan Gomes contract extensions. Still no word on if the club is any closer to a deal with Justin Masterson.
