(CLEVELAND) -- The Indians and Blue Jays completed a trade on Saturday, Nov. 3 sending right-hander Esmil Rogers to Toronto in exchange for shortstop Mike Aviles and catcher/infielder Yan Gomes.

Aviles, who was traded to Toronto from the Boston Red Sox in exhange for manager John Farrell, should back up Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop.

Gomes, 25, spent the majority of 2012 season batting .328 (100-305) with 44 RS, 29 2B, 13 HR & 59 RBI in 79 games for AAA Las Vegas. The versatile right-handed hitter also appeared in 43 games in 2012 with Toronto (20G- 1B, 9G- CA, 8G- 3B, 4G- LF, 2G- DH), batting .204 (20-98) with 4 HR, 13 RBI.

Aviles, 31, hit .250 for the Red Sox with 13 HR and 60 RBIs. Both Gomes and Aviles are right-handed hitters, something the Indians lacked a year ago.
