BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday promoted DB Julian Posey to the active roster from the practice squad and placed DB Chris Owens (knee) on injured reserve.
Posey, a 5-10, 190-pound defensive back, is a first-year NFL player out of Ohio University who made his Cleveland debut Oct. 20 at Green Bay. He has spent most of the regular season the Browns’ practice squad after spending training camp with the Dolphins. In 2012, Posey appeared in two games with Miami and spent 11 weeks on the Dolphins’ practice squad. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Posey spent 15 weeks on the New York Jets’ practice squad in 2011.
Posey is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, where he graduated from La Salle High School. His younger brother, DeVier, is a wide receiver for the Houston Texans.
Posey wears No. 38.
Owens appeared in 12 games with three starts and totaled 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He added seven special-teams tackles.
Earlier Tuesday, the Browns signed QB Caleb Hanie and placed LB Brandon Magee (pectoral) on injured reserve.
