A man is fighting for his life after he was shot by a Florida hunter who mistook him for a turkey, authorities say.
The incident happened Sunday morning in Bunnell, where the unidentified hunter told investigators he saw three female turkeys on the road and followed them, according to a police report. The birds led him to what he thought was a male turkey and he fired, police say. That’s when he heard someone scream and say he’d been shot, the Bunnell P.D. reports.
The victim was airlifted to a Daytona Beach hospital with shotgun injuries to his head and torso, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. As of mid-Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed in connection with the incident
