(Cleveland) A $7-million-dollar grant has been announced from the Federal Government to be used to transform the lower level of Cleveland's Veterans Memorial Bridge, also known as the Detroit-Superior Bridge, into a more useful thoroughfare. Initial plans call for the lower level, which was used by streetcars years ago, to be made passable for bicycles and pedestrians, in addition to an entertainment and event venue. Currently cyclists and walkers have to share the upper level of the bridge with daily traffic into and out of downtown. The money comes from the Biden Administration's Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program. In all, Ohio is receiving more than $77-million dollars from the program that is part of the President's Investing in America Agenda. A feasibility study for the bridge will come first. And then be followed by an engineering plan.
