A species of whale believed to be extinct in the Atlantic Ocean has been spotted off the coast of Massachusetts.

Researchers encountered a gray whale last Friday, about 30 miles south of Nantucket.

It's a species that hasn't been seen in the Atlantic in more than 200 years, after it was hunted to near-extinction in the 18th century.

Scientists believe climate change played a role in the gray whale's return to Atlantic waters.
