(Cleveland) Jayrion Church has been sentenced to 20 to 25-years in prison for the March 2023 shooting of Cleveland Police Detective Mark Bahrijczuk. 18-year-old Church and two others were seen driving a stolen Kia when another detective tried to pull them over. Church sped away ultimately crashing into a brick pillar and then fleeing on foot. The detective called out to his partner, Bahrijczuk where Church was headed. As Bahrijczuk exited his vehicle Church opened fire, striking the detective twice. Once in the arm and once in the leg. Early last month Church entered guilty pleas to charges of attempted aggravated murder, failure to comply, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, and having weapons under disability.
