An Oregon father has been charged with drugging three 12-year-old girls during his daughter’s sleepover.

Lake Oswego resident Michael Meyden, 57, turned himself in last week and has already pleaded not guilty to the charges, which reportedly occurred in August 2023, court paperwork reveals. Prosecutors say Meyden laced mango smoothies with benzodiazepine, a drug that’s used to treat insomnia and panic attacks. The girls who ingested the drug told police they felt groggy, and two said they blacked out, documents reveal.

However, the third girl managed to stay awake and texted her mom just before 2 a.m., according to charging documents. The text read, “Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond but please come get me. Please. Please pick up. Please. Please!!” After her parents notified the parents of the other girls, all three were picked up, prosecutors say. All tested positive for benzodiazepine, they add.
