Here's a fascinating piece of White House trivia on this Presidents Day: Abraham Lincoln once pardoned the great-great-grandfather of current President Joe Biden.

That's according to the Washington Post, which made the discovery while reviewing court-martial records in the National Archives.

In 1864, Moses J. Robinette was charged with attempted murder after attacking John J. Alexander with a pocket knife while working for the Union Army.

Robinette was sentenced to two years hard labor, but was pardoned by President Lincoln at the behest of Army officers who felt the sentence was too harsh.

Historian David J. Gerleman, who wrote the Post story, says it shows "just how many Civil War stories have yet to be told."
