A federal judge has blocked JetBlue's $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines, over concerns it would drive up prices.

A U.S. District Court Judge ruled the proposed merger would "harm cost-concious travelers who rely on Spirit's low fares."

The Justice Department had sue to block the sale last March, claiming the deal would eliminate "about half" of the airline's low-cost seats.

The move sent Spirit's stock price plunging, dropping more than 50% on Tuesday.
