The late baseball player and manager Don Zimmer (1931 -2014) …he would have been 92 (Zimmer was involved in professional baseball from 1949 until his death, a span of 65 years. But an injury he suffered also changed the game in a fundamental way. During a minor league game in July 1953, Zimmer was struck by a pitch. He lost consciousness and ultimately suffered a serious brain injury. In fact, he woke up two weeks later, thinking that it was the day after the game where the incident took place. This led to Major League Baseball adopting batting helmets as a safety measure to be used by players when at-bat.)

The late crime boss Al Capone (1899 – 1947) (FAST FACTS: His seven-year reign as crime boss ended when he was 33 years old. After Capone was released from prison, he was referred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for the treatment of paresis (caused by late-stage syphilis). Hopkins refused to admit him based solely on his reputation, but Union Memorial Hospital accepted him. Capone was grateful for the compassionate care that he received and donated two Japanese weeping cherry trees to Union Memorial Hospital in 1939)
