Guns Seized At US Airports In Record Number In 2023

TSA Displays Unusual Array Of Weapons And Prohibited Items Seized At JFK Airport

A record number of firearms were seized at U.S. airports in 2023, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Out of 858.6 million passengers who were screened last year, TSA workers confiscated a total of 6,737 firearms in carry-on bags – up from 6,542 in 2022, the agency reports. Of those seized weapons, 93 percent were loaded, according to the TSA.

The airport at which most guns were seized last year was Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, with 451. Dallas-Fort Worth checks in at number two with 378, followed by Houston’s George Bush Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, with 311 and 234, respectively. And rounding out the top five is Nashville International with 188.
