A Massachusetts man is facing animal cruelty charges after he reportedly set a live raccoon on fire, authorities say.

Officers made the disturbing discovery over the weekend after they received a report of two neighbors arguing in Quincy, police say. When officers arrived at the home, they "saw a live raccoon in a trap cage that appeared to have burn injuries," according to the Quincy Police Department. A subsequent investigation turned up a video that showed an unidentified 63-year-old build a fire in a trash can and set the cage on top of the can “as the fire intensified,” a statement reads. The man was arrested and the raccoon was taken to an animal shelter, where it’s expected to survive, authorities say.

Under Massachusetts law, someone convicted of animal cruelty can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in state prison and fined a maximum of $5,000.
