Cleveland Guardians Tab Stephen Vogt As New Manager

The Cleveland Guardians have a new manager. Former All-Star Catcher Stephen Vogt has been named manager of the club becoming the 45th manager in team history.

The 39-year old Vogt most recently spent the previous season as the bullpen and quality control coach of the Seattle Mariners after capping a ten year major league career which saw him make two All-Star appearances as a catcher.

Vogt replaces former skipper Terry Francona who stepped down at the end of last season to address some physical ailments he's been dealing with the past few years.

Francona led the Cleveland Indians/Guardians franchise since 2013 and helped them to a World Series appearance in 2016 where they lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-games-to-3.

As a player, Vogt spent time with the Athletics, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Giants, Braves and Tampa Bay Rays.
