A Lowe’s employee that has worked for the retailer for 13 years has lost her job for trying to stop a group of shoplifters.

Donna Hansbrough tried to prevent three people from leaving her Rincon, Ga. Lowe’s with a cart containing about $2,100 worth of merchandise.

Hansbrough, 68, was punched multiple times by one of the shoplifters, which left her with a black eye.

Due to Lowe’s having a policy where employees aren’t allowed to interfere with any potential shoplifters, Hansbrough also was let go.

Hansbrough said, “They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it … I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just, I lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just…I just lost it.”
