Downtown Cleveland Alliance Update With CEO Michael Deemer - 7-12-23

Michael Deemer, President & CEO from The Downtown Cleveland Alliance spoke to Bill about Businesses - Housing Demand Study - Clean and Safe - Think outside the Lunchbox  

Businesses 

  • 103 Business have opened since March 2020 for a total of over 450 Stores and Boutiques in Downtown Cleveland 
  • In the past week popular calzone shop D.P. Dough and the second location of Cleveland Sandwich Co. opened 
  • This week Fahrenheit, a modern and upscale dining and event space at 55 Public Square will open 

 

Housing Demand Study: 

  • Downtown Cleveland partnered with GCP to bring Urban Partners back to the Cleveland market to update and expand the 2017 study.  
  • Population growth and the development pipeline remain strong 
    • Current population 20,750 
      • Estimated to reach 29k by 2032 with aggressive growth which we are on track to meet 
    • 9172 apartments currently online 
      • 1700+ underway 
  • More needs to be done to increase homeownership in the Downtown Core 
    • For Sale represents 6.3% of market share, peer city average is 22.5% 
  • Downtown Cleveland is working on developing strategies to implement recommendations 

 

Clean and Safe: 

  • Our Clean, Safe, and welcoming Ambassadors remain hard at work. In the first six months of 2023 alone, Ambassadors have provided 1338 safety escorts, 199 motorist assists, 9,968 business contacts, and 14,224 security checks. 
  • Our ambassadors can provide safety escorts between the hours of 7am to midnight, Sunday through Wednesday and extended hours 7am to 3:30am, Thursday through Saturday. Our services can be accessed by contacting the Operations Center at 216-621-6000. 
  • We will continue to work with the Cleveland Division of Police and Commander Tucker to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

  • Sign up on our website to use our web-based app to scan QR codes and check in at participating restaurants to win gift certificates and prizes.
