Texas authorities are warning beachgoers to watch their step – the state’s shoreline has been littered with aquatic landmines.

Blue button jellyfish have been washing ashore in record numbers, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. While the creatures’ blue tentacles might make them an attractive sight, wildlife officials say coming into contact with their stingers could result in major skin problems.

What’s more is experts expect more blue buttons – which are actually hydrozoan polyps, not jellyfish -- to arrive over the next month as they search of free-floating plankton.
