Richard Dreyfuss Says Oscars Diversity Rules 'Make Me Vomit'

Two-time Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss is not a fan of the Academy's new diversity rules.

Dreyfuss said the new standards "make me vomit" in an interview with PBS Firing Line with Margaret Hoover: "No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is."

“What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings? You can’t legislate that. And– you have to let life be life. And I’m sorry, I don’t think that there is a minority or a majority in the country that has to be catered to like that,” Dreyfuss added.

Starting in 2024, the Academy will require films submitted for Best Picture to meet diversity standards for cast, crew, and creative team.
