Eight-Year-Old Dies In Akron House Fire

(Akron) - An eight-year-old girl died Tuesday in a house fire in Akron. Roniah Bartee was found about 4:15 a.m. in the second floor of a burning house in the 2200 block of 18th Street SW in Akron. Roniah was taken to Children's Hospital of Akron, where she was pronounced dead about a half hour later,.

Akron Fire Union president Kevin Gostkowski says this hit home for firefighters. He told 3 News just about everyone on the job has children, so anytime a child dies, it hits them very hard. Lt. Sierjie Lash of Akron Fire says she spoke with Roniah's mother, who was saddened by the fact her daughter is no longer alive..

Both Akron Fire and the Ohio Fire Marshal's Office both told 3 News the fire appears suspicious.
