Indians Announce 2nd Annual CIC Giveathon

Cleveland - The Cleveland Indians Thursday announced their second annual CIC Giveathon, presented by Kaulig Giving, which will raise money for Cleveland Indians Charities to help bridge the digital divide in Northeast Ohio that has been magnified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds raised by Cleveland Indians Charities from this year’s Giveathon will benefit Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Breakthrough Public Schools and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio to help advance their technological capabilities, allowing more digital connectivity, education and after school programs.

“On behalf of all our K-8 scholars, we at Breakthrough are so honored to be part of this year’s Giveathon,” said Breakthrough cofounder John Zitzner. “Now more than ever, we are all seeing just how urgent it is that we rally together to support education in our city. Our kids are depending on us to deliver during the most challenging of times, and everyone involved in this Giveathon will make delivering on that promise possible. As we say at Breakthrough every day: Education is Urgent!”

The CIC Giveathon will take place during the Cleveland Indians home game against the Detroit Tigers on August 21st and will be held online. A special game telecast produced by SportsTime Ohio and simulcast on WKYC will highlight Cleveland Indians Charities digital divide initiatives through produced features and guest appearances. Live donation updates will be provided throughout the telecast by Kaulig Companies Chairman Matt Kaulig.

“Our top priority at Kaulig Giving is the well-being of children and families in Northeast Ohio, so our partnership with Cleveland Indians Charities and dedication to its annual Giveathon are important and make a lot of sense,” said Kaulig. “Many area students are starting off this school year learning remotely. Meanwhile, countless children and families don’t have technology or the internet. We are committed to helping kids have access to education and raising funds through the Giveathon to address the digital divide.”

Cleveland Indians Manager Terry Francona will jump start the Giveathon, and has already pledged $24,000 to help bridge the digital divide.

The Giveathon will feature two different opportunities for fans to donate online at www.Indians.com/Giveathon:

• First 400 fans to make a $100-or-more donation will receive a signed baseball from a member of the 2020 Cleveland Indians

• Fans can bid on player wives auction items including player baskets, jerseys and one lucky winner will receive 10 years of Cleveland Indians Opening Day tickets

In the first annual Giveathon in 2019, Tribe fans and partners raised nearly $200,000 for Cleveland Indians Charities which went towards youth baseball initiatives in the city of Cleveland.
