Cleveland Couple Married By Zoom Videoconference

(Cleveland) - A first for Cleveland Municipal Court. Judge Emanuella Groves on Tuesday presided over the marriage of Terri Smith and Darrick Fleming via Zoom video conference.

Judge Groves was in her living room, and Smith and Fleming were in theirs. The videoconference was seen by friends and family watching in their homes. The judge found out that she could legally perform the marriage ceremony as long as she could see the couple.

As for the marriage license, Smith and Fleming were able to obtain it from Cuyahoga County Probate Court via Skype. The probate court had suspended the issuance of marriage license, but last week started approving them via video conference.
