Jury Finds Cuyahoga Falls Man Guilty in Shooting

Akron - Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that a Summit County jury found Jeffrey Straughan, 53, of Center Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls, guilty of shooting at another man.

Jurors found Straughan guilty of the following charges:

  • Felonious Assault with a Gun Specification – a felony of the 2nd degree
  • Improper Discharge of a Firearm on a Prohibited Premises with a Gun Specification – a felony of the 3rd degree
  • Aggravated Menacing – a misdemeanor of the 1st degree

Straughan owns East of Chicago Pizza on State Road in Cuyahoga Falls. On August 14, 2018, Straughan searched for, then confronted a 38-year-old man and accused him of stealing one dollar from a tip jar at the restaurant. Straughan pulled out a gun and fired it in the man’s direction. The shooting occurred at Portage Crossing Shopping Center. No one was injured in the altercation.

Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux is scheduled to sentence Straughan on August 26th, 2019 at 9:30am.
