Five CPD Officers Disciplined

(Cleveland) - Five police officers have been disciplined or reprimanded in two separate instances announced Monday by Mayor Frank Jackson, Police Chief Calvin Williams, and Safety Director Michael McGrath.

Two of those officers were disciplined for their role in the death of 37-year-old Tanisha Anderson, who died three years ago when the mentally ill woman was in police custody.  Officer Scott Aldridge was given a ten-day suspension, while officer Bryan Myers was given a written warning.

Neither officer will face criminal charges.

Also announced was the punishment of three officers in the police sex crime unit for not investigating about 60 sex crimes.  Commander James McPike was demoted to captain, Sergeant Anthony McMahon was suspended 15 days, and Detective Tom Ross was demoted to patrol officer.  Ross was the most behind in his casework of anyone in the unit.

Chief Williams says the untouched cases have been assigned to other detectives.
