“Picks With Nick” NFL selections ATS Week 1

NFL Week 1 picks include Ravens-Bengals, Lions-Cardinals, Giants-Cowboys

By: Nick Camino

CLEVELAND – Week 1 of the NFL season opened with stunner as the Kansas City Chiefs stormed past the New England Patriots 42-27 at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night. The rest of Week 1 for the NFL continues on Sunday and “Picks With Nick” has seven selections against the spread, for entertainment purposes only of course.

Here are the rules: Our picks are made against Las Vegas oddsmakers merely helping create football interactions on Facebook and Twitter, as well as online and on-air content for Newsradio WTAM 1100 and WTAM.com.

Similar to last football season, our goal is to win 53% of our picks against the spread. Las Vegas sports books, give us 11/10 odds or -110, so in order to break even in picking games against the spread (ATS) we must win 52.4% of the games we select. Winning 58% of picks ATS would place you among the most elite sports handicappers in the world. We’ll shoot for somewhere between 53% - 58% again this season.

We are again keeping our college and NFL selections separate, but we will update the results weekly below with full transparency seeing how we stack up against the Las Vegas oddsmakers. We are coming off a winning first season in which we hit 54% ATS in college football and NFL combined in 2016.

“Picks With Nick” will also feature a radio segment weekly on Newsradio WTAM 1100 discussing our selections.

Below is our full slate of NFL football featuring seven selections ATS for Week 1:

Game: Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Where: Cincinnati, Ohio – Paul Brown Stadium

Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET

TV: CBS

Spread: Bengals -3

Nick’s Pick: Opening with an AFC North divisional game is never easy and with Joe Flacco missing parts of the pre-season and some inconsistency with the Ravens offense, the Bengals please their home fans with a victory in Week 1. Nick’s Pick is Bengals -3.

Game: Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions

Where: Detroit, Michigan – Ford Field

Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET

TV: FOX

Spread: Cardinals -2

Nick’s Pick: The Cardinals took a step back last season and while they should be improved this season, Matt Stafford and his Lions teammates are a confident bunch heading into 2017. The home team getting points in this spot with Arizona traveling as well, provides value for Detroit. Nick’s Pick is Lions +2.

Game: Indianapolis Colts vs. Los Angeles Rams

Where: Los Angeles, California – Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

Kickoff: 4:05 pm ET

TV: CBS

Spread: Rams -3.5

Nick’s Pick: The Colts seem to be making headlines for all the wrong reasons and Andrew Luck’s status for this entire season seems questionable. The Rams defense does not get enough credit and while they are shutting down the Indy, Jared Goff will look much more comfortable in Year 2 under center. Nick’s Pick is Rams -3.5.

Game: Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers

Where: Green Bay, Wisconsin – Lambeau Field

Kickoff: 4:25 pm ET

TV: FOX

Spread: Packers -3

Nick’s Pick: Top to bottom, the Seahawks are probably the better team. However, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense should thrive in warm-weather conditions with the home crowd behind them. Nick’s Pick is Packers -3.

Game: New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys

Where: Arlington, Texas – AT&T Stadium

Kickoff: 8:30 pm ET

TV: NBC

Spread: Cowboys -4

Nick’s Pick: Ezekiel Elliott will play in this highly anticipated season-opener, but will miss the next six games due to suspension. His presence will be felt and the Cowboys should win this game, but Eli Manning and the Giants at least find a way to keep this game close. Nick’s Pick is Giants +4.

Game: New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings

Where: Minneapolis, Minnesota – U.S. Bank Stadium

Kickoff: 7:10 pm ET

TV: ESPN

Spread: Vikings -3

Nick’s Pick: Adrian Peterson makes his return to Minneapolis but this show will belong to Drew Brees and the rest of the Saints offensive unit. The Vikings get stunned in this Monday Night Football match up as the Saints turn this game into a track meet. Nick’s Pick is Saints +3.

Game: Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos

Where: Denver, Colorado – Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Kickoff: 10:20 pm ET

TV: ESPN

Spread: Broncos -3

Nick’s Pick: We’ll certainly give an edge to the Chargers at quarterback in this match up, but that is probably the only area they have a strong advantage. The Broncos are still a tough defensive team and Trevor Siemian should do just enough to put Denver in position to win this match up. Nick’s Pick is Broncos -3.
