Undocumented Immigrant Could Be Deported Tuesday

(Willard) - Unless a last-minute reprieve can be arranged, an undocumented immigrant who lives in Huron County will be deported to Mexico on Tuesday, leaving his family behind.

Jesus Lara Lopez lives in Willard, has a wife and four children, and has a job.  In 2008, ICE agents became aware of Lopez when he was pulled over for a traffic violation, and didn’t have a driver’s license.

Since then, Lopez has been able to stay while his case went through channels.  Recently, under a crackdown of immigrants, he was told he’d have to leave for Mexico on July 18th.

An immigrant defense group, America’s Voice, has been trying to find ways to keep Lopez in the United States, including getting over 30,000 signatures on a petition calling for Congress to intervene on his behalf.
