(Parma) - Demolition began today at Parmatown Mall, with a wrecking ball ceremony this morning sending the former Macy's Department Store into history books.
Michelle Devlin, operations manager for the new Shoppes at Parma says what was originally The May Company is being demolished over the next 30 days to make way for a new Dick's Sporting Goods outlet.
Devlin explains it’s part of a 2.5 year, $70 million dollar effort to totally remake Parmatown which has suffered a decline in customers over the years.
Residents came out to see the demolition work begin, some were sad and say they had many fond memories of shopping at the store. Others are looking ahead to the future, and believe it's time for major improvements.
