(Cleveland)- Classical music fans in northeast Ohio are mourning the passing of a legendary Cleveland Orchestra leader.

Lorin Maazel died Sunday in Virginia from complications of pneumonia at the age of 84.

Maazel was the Cleveland Orchestra's music director from 1972 to 1982, a period marked by an expanded performance schedule and a playlist from modern and contemporary composers.
