(Cleveland)- The canonization of Pope John Paul the Second is cause for celebration for many Catholics in northeast Ohio.

Special Masses were held Sunday at the Polish immigrant parishes of St. Stanislaus and St. Barbara, where some members knew John Paul long before he led the Catholic Church.

His connection is strongest at St. Stanislaus, where he celebrated Mass in 1969 as the Cardinal Archbishop of Krakow and a shrine was dedicated in his honor.
