(Medina) - Medina Police have arrested a grandmother from Chippewa Lake following her role in a burglary of Eli’s Restaurant in Medina Public Square. 50 year old Caron J. Simmons is accused of smashing the front door window of the restaurant. Surveillance video shows the woman enter through the back door and exit the restaurant with a child.
“What are we coming to with grandmother’s breaking into to businesses with grandchildren in tow…Lord help us,” said Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell.
The June 15th burglary has cost Simmons a breaking and entering charge, a felony of the fifth degree and more charges to follow.
“I am shocked and appalled. The child in the video is a 4 year old grandson of the suspect,” said Chief Patrick Berarducci. “I have directed our detectives to expand their investigation into the entire circumstances of this crime and potential charges of Child Endangerment against the grandmother and others. I have personally notified the Director of Job and Family Services and asked for a full investigation of this family for the welfare of the child.”
Simmons is scheduled to meet at Medina Municipal Court on Monday before Judge Dale Chase for an initial appearance. The investigation is still ongoing.
