(Cleveland) -- A report from Cuyahoga County's inspector general says that County Executive Ed FitzGerald (photo) did not violate the county ethics code by accepting a political contribution from a man FitzGerald had just appointed to a county board.
Inspector General Nailah Byrd says there were no ethics issues in question since the contribution came from J.W. Sean Dorsey after he had been nominated for a county board, but before the county council confirmed him. Dorsey had donated $1,000 to FitzGerald’s campaign for governor.
County Councilman Dave Greenspan tells the Northeast Ohio Media Group that he disagrees with the ruling, saying the county ethics rules should apply to people who are nominated as well as to those who are appointed.
