(Cleveland) - A Cleveland Police Officer has contracted viral meningitis.

The officer is assigned to the department's fifth district although the officer does not work basic patrol and is said to have limited contact with citizens.

Viral meningitis is an inflamation of tissues which cover the spinal cord and brain.

Most people infected suffer no symptoms or develop just an upper respiratory infection or rash accompanied by a low grade fever.

Most patients completely recover on their own as their is no specific treatment for the illness.
