It was an afternoon of tears and embraces; as The Cleveland Indians formally honored Jim Thome by unveiling his statue in Heritage Park. The spot of the unveiling took place where Thome blasted one of the longest homers ever at Progressive Field. Jim Thome is the Indians all time home run hitter with 337 homers from 1991 through 2002. During the ceremony; Thome announced that he had a temporary one day contract with the club so he could officially retire as a Cleveland Indian. Jason Giambi also announced that he will give up the number #25; (Thome's former number) so it could be officially retired in the near future.
