(Medina) - Police Chief Patrick Berarducci suffered minor injuries when he accidently shot himself in the leg Thursday morning.

According to Medina Police, Chief Berarducci was wounded when his service weapon discharged while he was holstering the gun around 10:00 am at his home.

Chief Berarducci was holstering his Smith & Wesson .40 caliber Shield handgun when the trigger guard got caught and fired a round into his upper thigh. The bullet then exited his upper thigh, resulting in non-life threatening wounds.

The Chief, who recently had all officers attend a Combat Medic course and supplied everyone with medical supplies for trauma care, remained alert and gave directions to his wife to retrieve his medical bag from his car.

His wife then applied a dressing to the wounds prior to the Medina Life Support Team taking him to Medina Hospital.

Chief Berarducci was treated and released from the hospital and didn't even require stitches.

Medina Police Dept. officers and detectives did respond to the residence and gathered evidence as part of a standard weapon-related accident.
