(Cleveland) - LeJon Woods pleaded not guilty to seeking bribes from three companies, in an appearance before U.S. District Court in Akron.

The former contract compliance officer for the City of Cleveland resigned last month after being charged by federal prosecutors. The 29 year old Woods is free on $20,000 bond.

Investigators claim Woods tried to extort $7,000 from companies that were facing fines for not complying with contract requirements, and offered to alter their records.

Prosecutors believe the offenses happened from May to August of 2010.
