Tuesday night the Cleveland Metropolitan School District School Board unanimously approved a tentative new 3-year teacher's contract. The contract is the final piece in the sweeping School Reform Plan that was backed by Mayor Frank Jackson and approved by voters with the passage of a 15-mill levy last November.

Cleveland Schools CEO Eric Gordon says the contract will not only benefit the teachers, but most importantly the students "at the end of the day we both( the School Board and the Teacher's Union ) believe we have a contract that's good for the kids and fair for our members.

The Teacher's Union will be voting to approve the contract on May 25th. Teacher's Union President David Quolke says the contract includes a differentiated compensation plan, a different way to compensate teachers that will take into account student performance and will reward proffession growth of the teachers. Teachers with two ineffective evaluations can be terminated.

The agreement also promises a labor peace deal, meaning teachers cannot come back and ask for more money for the next three years.
